Edgewood College FAR Job Description

 

Edgewood College Division III                   

The Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR) to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is expected to

Be a full-time member of the faculty and not paid for coaching or teaching physical education. 

Be known to student athletes by speaking at every compliance meeting, participating in exit interview activities, attending 2-3 athletic events every month in a variety of sports, and supporting the student-athlete advisory committee.

Attend Athletic Advisory Committee and Athletic Department meetings

Attend every Northern Athletic Conference (NAC) FAR meeting.

Regularly attend NCAA and FAR Association national meetings, at least one every three years.

Administer surveys as directed by the NCAA and perform other duties assigned by the NCAA.

Participate on search committees for senior athletic administrator and head coaches.

Oversee academic eligibility decisions with the compliance coordinator.

Establish solid working relationships with the director of athletics, the compliance coordinator, the director of admissions, the registrar and director of student financial aid.

Be knowledgeable of issues concerning athletics at the institutional, conference, and national level. 

Know the NCAA rules, especially those contained in NCAA Bylaws 14, 13, and 15 in that priority.

Be active in institutional control of intercollegiate athletics.

Report all secondary and major violations to the NCAA and NAC.  Be knowledgeable about all institutional investigations and have access to all infractions reports before they are submitted to the NCAA and NAC.
