Faculty Athletic Representative Job Description
Function - Ensure the academic integrity of the Nebraska Wesleyan University athletics program by representing Nebraska Wesleyan University and its faculty to the NCAA, NAIA, and NIAC, and providing advice and oversight for Nebraska Wesleyan University’s athletics program to the Athletic Director and the President.
Requirements – The Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR) must be a full-time tenured faculty member. The Faculty Athletic Representative may not be a member of the Athletic Department as a coach or administrator. The Faculty Athletic Representative is appointed by the President.
Reports to – President of Nebraska Wesleyan University
Duties –
- In consultation with the Registrar, certify eligibility of student athletes.
- Prepare on behalf of Nebraska Wesleyan University requests for waivers and/or appeals to the NCAA, NAIA, and NIAC.
- Represent Nebraska Wesleyan University to and participate actively in NIAC activities.
- Represent Nebraska Wesleyan University as a delegate to the annual Faculty Athletic Representative Association Convention.
- Represent Nebraska Wesleyan University as a delegate to the NCAA and NAIA annual conventions as appropriate. Meet with the President and Director of Athletics to establish Nebraska Wesleyan University’s voting positions on legislation.
- Serve as a member of the Eligibility Committee and other Athletic Department Committees. Attend whenever possible Athletic Department meetings and review Athletic Department meetings and review Athletic Department written communications.
- Serve as one of five recognized individuals authorized to make contact with NCAA and NAIA legislative services and staff.
- Arrange to have statistical reports prepared on academic preparation and performance of student athletes, and periodically report to the faculty regarding the athletics program and academic matters relating to student athletes.
- Serve as one of five recognized individuals authorized to make contact with NCAA and NAIA legislative services and staff.
- Meet periodically with the Athletic Director and/or the President to discuss the athletic program.
- Coordinate nomination process for postgraduate scholarships.
- Engage in other responsibilities relating to the job function as requested by the President or the Athletic Director.
